Description
This image is an original astrophotography piece done by Kolby Van Camp over a single night under Kansas skies. The image shows a detailed view of the deep sky object, Caldwell 33, otherwise known as the Eastern Veil Nebula. Caldwell 33 is approximately 2,400 light years away and is supernova remnant in the constellation Cygnus. The Eastern Veil Nebula is only a small part of the overall deep sky object known as the Veil Nebula or the Cygnus Loop. According to astronomers, the star that exploded to create the supernova remnant was 20 times more massive than our sun. It is thought to have gone supernova 10,000-20,000 years ago, and would have been so bright it would have been visible during the day.
With a total integration time of five hours and fifteen minutes, this high resolution image is perfect for the wall of original art collectors and astronomy enthusiasts alike.
This image was taken by a ZWO 533MC Pro cooled astro-camera attached to a William Optics Zenithstar 73 apochromatic doublet refractor under Bortle 3 skies in southwest Kansas.
